Spring

Farm Visits

In the spring we went on many trips to both conventional and organic farms. We learned the advantages and disadvantages of each, including environmental impact, cost, and efficiency.

Tree Plant

Twice a year CELP and Headwaters host an "alumni tree plant", where former and current students get together to plant trees. Not only are the trees good for the river and environment, they also help to offset to the carbon emssions of all our bus trips.

Voices, Silver Buckshot, TAWA, TASL, Locavore

We spent 5 weeks doing rotations in groups, taking turns cycling between Voices interviews, Silver Buckshot sustainability presentations, TAWA (Teaching a Wellness Activity), TASL (Teaching a Sustainable Living Skill), and Locavore meals.

Check out our Voices interviews and Silver Buckshot presentations!

Storienteering

Paul Gifford set up a scavenger hunt of boxes and stories around Guelph and sent us out to collect them. When we came back we shared all the adventures we’d had, like meeting Bruce the Bird Man, finding old glass bottles, and more. It was a creative way to teach us about our rivers.

Rubber Boots

In the week of May 16th, groups of grade three students from five different schools came to the community garden and the banks of the Eramosa river to learn about the environment and sustainability. We prepared stations to teach them outdoor lessons that corresponded with their science curriculum in an interactive way.
